Ariana Grande stuns yet again with a new song and video for “7 Rings.” In an all pink hued house, the woman empowerment is evident in the song lyrics and the video. Everything is girly, pink, and there are even scenes that imitate Grande being in a dollhouse. Grande throws a house party for all of her close girlfriends, which is how the song’s idea came out. She’s seen laughing, dancing, and drinking champagne from a massive champagne tower. These are things that any group of girlfriends do together-minus the champagne tower maybe. This is what Grande should be doing-she’s young, beautiful, and at the top of her game, but there’s nothing like a good group of girls to get you through your best and worst days. Grande emulates that in such a natural way in her video.
“7 Rings” opens with and R&B/trap rendition of Julie Andrews’ famous song from The Sound of Music, “These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things.” Grande sings making her own money, buying what she wants when she wants, and would rather be spending money on herself and friends instead of a man. Just like many of Grande’s songs in the past, this is just as empowering for young women. One of the most iconic lines in the song “Been through some bad shit, I should be a sad bitch/Who would have thought it’d turn me to a savage?” shows yet again, that Grande turned her turmoils into triumphs, and she’s a better person for it.
The biggest thing that sets Grande’s new song apart from her others, is her rap. Grande’s rapping skills isn’t something she has ever shown the world, until now. Of course, the world went crazy for it. Grande could sing (or rap) the nutrition facts on the side of cereal box and the world would be talking about it for weeks.
Grande’s next album Thank U, Next is set to be released at some point this year. While fans eagerly await the album’s release, watching the video and singing about being filthy rich will keep them busy for now. The video can be viewed below.
